Mornings on the Bay

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

When you work in such beautiful surroundings as we do here at Aquavue Cafe Watersports it’s hard to nominate one part of the day as your favourite time. It is something that people do ask me from time to time and my answer seems to vary with the time of year.

In autumn the early mornings are a great time to be down here at Aquavue. With the sun coming up overFraser Island and Hervey Bay so still you can hardly see a ripple it’s a magic time and a time when I like to take a few moments just to sit and relax before another busy day begins.

Hervey Bay morning

Out in the Hervey Bay

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

All this week we’ve had an interesting vessel moored out in Hervey Bay. I’m not sure whether it could be called a house boat or not because it certainly comes a little better equipped than your average house boat.

It’s interested people other than just me too. Several of those who have used our jet ski hire and beach hire service to hire jetskis and kayaks have headed in that direction to have a closer look.

Breakfast on Saturday

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Who wants to have breakfast at the best cafe in Hervey Bay? Well it seems that lots of people do if the weather’s good and last Saturday the weather was excellent. By 7.30 people were beginning to wait for a table.

I guess word of our new menu has spread around Hervey Bay and then there’s the view – this is a photo that one of our regulars took from the dining area at about 7.30 on Saturday.

What more can I say … but come on down and experience it for yourself. :)

A Busy Week

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Wow what a busy week we’ve had. Usually this time of year things really begin to quieten down; even though the weather is still great and water is still warm the holidays are over for most Australians but this last week has been great.

One of the most popular things for people to do here at Aquavue this week has been to take aguided jet ski tour to Fraser Island. We’ve had at least one tour head across Hervey Bay to Fraser Island every day this week.

Fraser Island is always a popular destination for people who come to Hervey Bay and there are plenty of Fraser Island tour bookings that we can organise for people. However our Fraser Island jet ski tours are unique because we show you a part of the island that the other tours can’t reach and just getting there on one of our jetskis is an adventure in itself.

Fraser Island beach
One of the features of Fraser Island is the sand; yes I know that the whole island is made of nothing but sand but the sand you will find on the beaches is amongst the whitest and finest sand in the world. Mix it with a little water and it’s great for cleaning jewellery :)

Introducing a New Menu

Friday, April 13th, 2007

This weekend is going to be a rather nervous time for Emma, Scott and the cafe crew here at Aquavue. Emma and our chef Scott are introducing a new menu and they’re not sure how it will be received.

They’re rather proud of the reputation they’ve earned for being the best cafe in Hervey Bay and they want to stay ahead of the others who are trying to take that reputation away from them. Personally I’ve got no doubts that those two can really pull it off.

With things like Belgian Waffles for breakfast and Peking Duck, Kangaroo and a whole lot of other mouth-watering treats for lunch I don’t think these two have anything to worry about. So why don’t you come down to Aquavue and check out the new menu?

There’s always great food and a great view right on the beach front.

The Boat in Hervey Bay

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Update May 7: It seems that this story has stirred up quite a bit of angst and the Fraser Coast Chronicle actually made it front page news today. The original information I posted here was obtained from talking to others who assurred me that their information was correct. It now seems that it wasn’t and the vessel has not been decommissioned and will not be sunk on the artifical reef.

It’s quite common to see visiting yachts and catamarans moored out in Hervey Bay and a couple of the favourite mooring spots are visible from the deck here at Aquavue. However, we rarely seeing anything quite like the large vessel that appeared out in the Bay just before Easter and quite a few people have asked me about it.

It’s an old barge that has been around the Fraser Coast for quite some time. It’s now well beyond it’s use-by date and so it’s been decommissioned and stripped. Sometime next week it will be sunk out in the bay as an extension to the artificial reef the provides a home for a lot of fish.

Currently it’s moored almost directly opposite Aquavue and many of our Hervey Bay jet ski hire patrons are taking a closer look at it before it disappears forever.

Dolphins for Breakfast

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

Well … no … I don’t mean that we serve Dolphins for breakfast here at Aquavue but you can almost share your breakfast at the best cafe in Hervey Bay dolphins.

There are several pods that live here in the Bay and one in particular comes in close to the shore quite often. They were quite visible from the cafe this morning and the day before yesterday they were in quite close to the shore.

It seems that while our patrons were enjoying breakfast here at Aquavue these guys were enjoying breakfast out in the Bay on several large schools of fish.

Riding the Beach Hire Banana

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Yesterday I mentioned on of the most popular items in our range of beach hire equipment.

After writing that I decided to master the art of posting video to Youtube and now I can show you how much fun people have when they hire the banana from us here at Aquavue, Hervey Bay.
