The Boat in Hervey Bay
Update May 7: It seems that this story has stirred up quite a bit of angst and the Fraser Coast Chronicle actually made it front page news today. The original information I posted here was obtained from talking to others who assurred me that their information was correct. It now seems that it wasn’t and the vessel has not been decommissioned and will not be sunk on the artifical reef.
It’s quite common to see visiting yachts and catamarans moored out in Hervey Bay and a couple of the favourite mooring spots are visible from the deck here at Aquavue. However, we rarely seeing anything quite like the largeĀ vessel that appeared out in the Bay just before Easter and quite a few people have asked me about it.
It’s an old barge that has been around the Fraser Coast for quite some time. It’s now well beyond it’s use-by date and so it’s been decommissioned and stripped. Sometime next week it will be sunk out in the bay as an extension to the artificial reef the provides a home for a lot of fish.
Currently it’s moored almost directly opposite Aquavue and many of our Hervey Bay jet ski hire patronsĀ are taking a closer look at it before it disappears forever.
