A Beautiful Morning

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

It’s winter here in Hervey Bay and if you had been here for the last few days you would have experienced several of the coldest winter days in living memory. And just to make it even more wintery it was raining on and off too.

But this morning has the promise of a beautiful sunny day to follow. Here’s an image I took from the webcam while the cafe crew were setting up just before opening time.

It’s mornings like this one that make you feel good to be alive and down here at Aquavue - the Hervey Bay cafe right on the beach.

The View from Aquavue

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Now you can see the view from Aquavue just as we see it every day.

For some time now we’ve had a webcam installed on the wall here at Aquavue and we’ve been slowly ironing out the bugs. Now we think it’s ready to go live and once we know that it is intergrated correctly with the Aquavue website we’ll have it on display over in the right hand column.

But for now here is the view from our cafe in Hervey Bay

Tourism Awards

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

It’s been a very interesting week this week. This is supposed to be the off-season when tourism drops off throughout Hervey Bay but we’ve continued to be busy with both the cafe and jetski and beach equipment hire.

Unfortunately several other cafes here in Hervey Bay haven’t been so fortunate and in the last few weeks three have closed their doors. There’s no doubt that running a cafe here in town can be a difficult business and hard work doesn’t always result in success.

But for those of us who remain it’s business as usual and sometimes beyond the usual. This week we were approached to nominate for two categories in the Fraser Coast South Burnett 2007 Tourism Awards for Excellence and we did. It will be interesting to see how we do because there’s plenty of competition.

Dolphins in the Bay Again

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Last time I was here I was telling you what a wonderful time the early mornings are here at Aquavue, Hervey Bay. Now I have to admit that sometimes the still peaceful mornings can disappear.

On Saturday we had the northerlies blowing and on those days the bay takes on a whole different look. It looks angry and rough and the sound of the waves hitting the beach is hard to miss … but it’s still a magic time and I think some of our cafe’s patrons prefer to see the bay displaying a different face for a change.

By Sunday though the northerlies had gone and the bay was peaceful and we had dolphins just off the beach. They were back again on Tuesday morning too and those beautiful creatures really do have a way of changing the colour of your day.

The dolphin pods here in Hervey Bay are all wild and don’t usually approach anyone in the water but down at Tin Can Bay - about two hours drive south of here - two dolphins come in every morning to be fed. I haven’t been to see them but some of our patrons have and they all say that it’s a great experience.

Breakfast on Saturday

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Who wants to have breakfast at the best cafe in Hervey Bay? Well it seems that lots of people do if the weather’s good and last Saturday the weather was excellent. By 7.30 people were beginning to wait for a table.

I guess word of our new menu has spread around Hervey Bay and then there’s the view - this is a photo that one of our regulars took from the dining area at about 7.30 on Saturday.

What more can I say … but come on down and experience it for yourself. :)

Introducing a New Menu

Friday, April 13th, 2007

This weekend is going to be a rather nervous time for Emma, Scott and the cafe crew here at Aquavue. Emma and our chef Scott are introducing a new menu and they’re not sure how it will be received.

They’re rather proud of the reputation they’ve earned for being the best cafe in Hervey Bay and they want to stay ahead of the others who are trying to take that reputation away from them. Personally I’ve got no doubts that those two can really pull it off.

With things like Belgian Waffles for breakfast and Peking Duck, Kangaroo and a whole lot of other mouth-watering treats for lunch I don’t think these two have anything to worry about. So why don’t you come down to Aquavue and check out the new menu?

There’s always great food and a great view right on the beach front.
